Face masks in Church

In response to concerns about the potential threat posed to the NHS by the emergence of the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus, on 10th December 2021 the Government announced the introduction of its Plan B in England. These rules mean that face coverings are required to be worn by law in most indoor public places including in places of worship.

Children aged under 11 and anybody with a valid medical exemption do not have to wear a mask.

For full details about the government rules relating to the wearing of face masks, and exemptions to this rule, please see: Face coverings: when to wear one, exemptions, and how to make your own - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

However, in January 2022 the government has announced that the measures put in place under Plan B in England will be lifted.

This means that from 27 January, there is no longer a legal requirement to wear a face covering. However, the government suggests that you continue to wear a face covering in crowded and enclosed spaces where you may come into contact with other people you do not normally meet. The full government guidance on face mask wearing is due to be updated shortly.
